Nearly 30 years of private duty nursing, one San Diego family at a time.
Since 1997, Firstat has been a locally owned, licensed private duty nursing agency in San Diego. Not a franchise, not a call center. Care is delivered by our own RN, LVN, and HHA staff, with continuity as a priority in how we build every care team.
Licensed, not just experienced
Firstat is licensed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as a Home Health Agency, not a companion-care or staffing agency. That license means our nurses can legally perform skilled procedures in a patient's home: wound care, injections, catheter and ostomy care, ventilator and tracheostomy support, and more, all under a physician-directed plan of care.
It's a meaningful difference for families comparing agencies. A non-medical home care company can provide company and help around the house, but by law cannot perform clinical tasks. When a patient's needs are medical (not just custodial), the agency providing care needs to be licensed for it.
Continuity of care
Most home health agencies staff by availability: whichever nurse is free gets the next visit. Firstat builds care teams with continuity in mind instead. We work to keep a consistent RN or LVN on a case when scheduling allows, so they know the patient's history, their home, their family, and the small details that don't make it into a chart.
That continuity matters most in the cases that last the longest: long-term ventilator and spinal cord injury care, chronic wound management, and complex patients where a new face every visit means starting over each time.
Background checks and screening
Every nurse who works for Firstat is a Firstat employee (not a contractor pulled from a staffing pool), and every one is background-checked before working with a patient. "Where care comes first" isn't just a line on the wall; it's why we hand-pick who represents us in a patient's home.
